Anyone have any experience making it? Got a good recipe? I figured it has be cheaper to make it than buy it.

Limoncello is basically lemon, grain alcohol, sugar and water. My friend made some one time and it was pretty good, but I don't have her recipe, sorry.

First off you're spelling it wrong. Secondly you can't go wrong with Alton Brown's recipe. make sure you have the long micro-grater like he used because it takes a lot of the work out of 2 pounds of lemon. And make sure to make a batch of homemade lemonade with the lemons. Be patient and give it the full week and shake it up everyday. Worth it!

I see some recipes call for grain alcohol. Any significant difference if I just use vodka?

Grain alcohol = Everclear
If you want to be able to enjoy it for a period of time then go with vodka. If you're trying to get shithoused then go with grain.

I have a batch of meyer lemon limoncello that I'm making right now using the recipe from this site:
https://limoncelloquest.com/
I made a batch before and it didn't turn out so well, mostly because I wasn't patient enough. Also, I think if you're using grain alcohol it is crucial to filter it before putting your zest in (brita). I didn't with my first batch and it still had that grain alcohol taste (gross).

Yes-- you'll be able to drink more of it before falling on your arse.

I make around 2 batches a year and I think the Alton Brown recipe is junk except for using 100 proof vodka. 7 Days is nothing in terms of limoncello.
Limoncelloquest.com is better and what I used when I made my first batch. You learn what you and your friends like and tweak the recipe for suit most tastes.
My current batch has only 100 proof vodka and less syrup and it is great, but weaker tasting then previous batches.
