Rewatching Lost: there's still enjoyment in it

So I'm dating this chick that had never seen LOST before. We've watched the first 12 episodes and she's hooked. It's been a bonding experience and I actually have been getting enjoyment out of watching her reactions to "Oh shite" moments. and the resulting pillow talk "please tell me why....."....and I getting to do my best Linus impressions as impersonations.
Not sure if we are going to make it through til the end, but I just wanted to give a heads up to everyone, you can reclaim some of your excitement for the show(character development, hints) through virgin eyes.
Not sure I want to go through the pain of watching Michael look for Walt though, so we might need a break

One of my friends has been using this show to get laid. It works apparently.
But I really don't think the show is that great. I'm almost done with the first season and so far this show is really inconsistent for me. I like the scenes on the actual island (for the most part) but the flashbacks are incredibly soap operish and they try too hard to make the characters likeable. If they did away with the stupid flashback scenes and focused the character development more on the island the show would be exponentially better. Also, I can't stand the overuse of dramatic music. But despite all that the show does have a great scene every once in awhile and I really like Charlie's character. But I know enough about the show to not have any real interest to keep watching after the 1st season.

I had a similar experience with One Tree Hill...

This is completely false. The flashbacks contain many of the greatest moments of the series. Also the flashbacks are heavily essential, especially later in the series.

Just keep watching, the show only gets better.
I can't specifically remember the end of the first season, but I can say that I really didn't expect the show to go the direction it did.

"How many did you have to drink at lunch, Dad." That line was pretty bad. But the flashbacks are good for a theme park ride like Lost (which is what it really is). But for a good, deep drama...the flashbacks come off as forced. Like I said, they try way too hard to make the characters likeable.

Well they should've handled them better or found a less lazier way to flesh out the characters.
ETA: I'm in a ranting mood tonight fwiw. I just feel like bitching about stuff.

I think youre doing the show some injustice if you don't give this show more 2 or 3 seasons. With any drama worth watching the character development should be done at a slowpace.

I agree that the flashbacks can get tiresome. Some of them are rewarding, most are not. Not one frick was given for Sun or Jin. Jacks gets a little repetitive. Kate's is pure soap opera. Sawyer, Hurley, and Locke are good. So are some others but I will refrain from namedropping to avoid spoilers.

What was wrong with that? His father is a drunk and Jack realized he did an operation while intoxicated. Don't think of it as too forced in the slightest. He and his dad had a major falling out, so what is wrong with it?

How is a flashback lazy? I mean really they are often quite essential. What happened before the Island will eventually come directly into play in the present.
