May get my vote for most heartbreaking movie ending of all time.
Sterling Hayden handled it much better than I would have. One of two things would have happened had that been me. I would either have collapsed and died of a massive coronary right there or freaked out and completely lost it on anyone I could get my hands on... starting with that damn dog.

Yeah great ending. You can see it's influence on a lot of future movies. You might also like to check out The Asphalt Jungle. Another really great heist film with Sterling Hayden. Talk about a poignant ending.
