no it wouldn't. a playoff would use the same "BCS" standings used now to pick teams, with polls factored in

in pro football there is the strength of victory and strength of schedule tiebreakers, but those almost never come up

Completely disagree. Under the current format it is about AQ by conferences. That is why you have an 8-4 Connecticut from the Big East playing in the Fiesta Bowl and getting drilled by Oklahoma. It is doubtful that you will get more than one per conference (in the current format). The impact of perception would be tremendously diminished.

But I personally would love to see an eight team BCS playoff.
