Fwiw:
Velocity
.380 - 950fps (100 grain)
9mm - 1150fps (115 grain)
Energy
.380 - 200 ft-lbs
9mm - 320 ft-lbs
Pretty big difference.

The Ruger LCP is not rated for +p ammunition. I would really advise against loading +p in the LCP.
This is odd, My Kel-tec says it is rated for +p ammo. I figured the Ruger would be as well

9mm in an mp5 sd hits about as hard as a .380. so yeah, it will do the job, just don't go for the padded areas, gonna have to head shot. during winter it could get you killed, even with +p HP because of premature projectile fracturing.

The 380 is typically a much smaller grain bullet (90 vs 115) with about half of the energy. The speed is not much different and the accuraccy seems to suffer on the 380, mainly because of the shorter barrels...at least I think so. It's what you give up for being able to put it in the front or back pocket. I have the Taurus TCP and do like it, primarily for concealment in and out of the car

Also, I don't shoot +p out of the TCP, even though most (if not all new Taurus') will run it. I feel it would compromise reacquisition of the target in such a small gun with my big hands.

We looked at several different 9mm but none seemed to fit her hands well, her favorite was the sig p238... If thats what it takes to get her started, its worth it... Great looking gun and it even feels good in my big hands.

You CANNOT go wrong with a Sig p238.
I love Sigs. Your wife has good taste.

The LCP is going to be smaller and thinner and weigh a little less tho. If she is going to carrying it could be a factor.

She has good taste and doesnt even know it
We looked long and hard at the LCP's and it just doesnt compare to the sig, felt like a toy gun compared to it. I'd rather pay a coupe hundred more and get something that'll last a long time.

Ruger has a VERY good track record and great customer service.
It may feel like a toy gun because it is made of glass filled nylon and a steel slide. It is meant to be light. If your wife wants a gun that she won't really know it's there in her purse, it would be an excellent option. It however isn't the easiest gun to shoot because of how small and light it is. Which might not be the best choice for her. The LCP is about half the weight of the p238, just sayin.

$639 at Lafayette shooters. They have one in the case that a customer returned, never fired, for $599.

You can find a p238 for ~ $475-$500.

quote:You're right, it is very light, almost too light. We lined up 6 or 7 compact 9mm and a few 380's and the sig was her favorite by far.
