UM2007 - I agree with everything you said. I guess to DB the national search was BR and California. But I think all of that crap he said was to further boost Hoke, even though he did it in a bad way.

I was unhappy with the hire for the first 5 min. Then I realized we have no choice but to support him. After the press conference he seems to be a great guy and really wants the job. Although "want" does not make you eligible for the job, it will boost his work ethic and "want" can take you a long way.

The last big hire, RR, didnt work out for us. I really dont know what his thought process was, the circumstances in which things never seemed to look up for us or improve things where we needed to. I think with Coach Hoke, if he sees that somthing is not working, he will take measures fix it do to his want and hunger and is not the guy to rest on his laurels as he doesnt have alot. I think RR totally blew off our defense and failed to address it (and special teams for that matter).

I think Coach Hoke can do alot more now with his resources available to him than what he had in the past at his last HC jobs.

I said before in another post - We will see how far we come in 2012 when we play Alabama. Everyone will expect us to get our teeth kicked in. We will see...

We also need to beat his old team this year as well.

One other thing going for Michigan this year... the schedule isnt very tough. Good year for things to gel.

I don't think Hoke will be a bad coach, but for whatever reason (apparently "the Carr faction") the search was incredibly limited. Instead of going for the best coach available, UM went for the best coach available who has some tie to Michigan.

Unfortunatley, most great coaches don't have ties to a school before being hired there. Spurrier may be an exception, but Mack Brown, Les Miles, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Jim Tressle, etc. are just considered the best coach available. If I was UM I would have talked to Pat Fitzgerald, Gary Paterson, Dan Mullens, Bobby Petrino, Gus Malzhan, Dan Holgerson, Paul Chryst, Butch Davis, K. Whittingham or Chris Petersen before Hoke.
