The Rooney Rule

What are your thoughts on it?
I think it is a little rediculous that this "rule" has to be enforced. I'll use Dallas as the example here, as they are set on Jason Garrett. But to satisfy this rule they have to conduct a fake interview with a black candidate who has NO shot of getting the job.
It just seems insulting to the people they are forced to interview. The job should go to the best person for the job, regardless of their race.

I'm not even sure who the "go-to" minority interview will be now that Leslie Frazier has a job.

it's bullshite like all negative action

I just don't see why a black coach would want to go for a fake interview. unless their consolation prize is a position coaching job...

it is horrible. Then again, who really loses? Some owner who has to fly the candidate out and buy him dinner?
do black coaches suffer with this rule? I don't see how.

that's a good point. Why do they need to have a fake interview with a minority candidate for Garrett, but not a white candidate for frazier?

just wanted to close that loophole

Part of it is "playing the game"
If a black coach turns down the obviously "fake" interview making it even more difficult for an organization then the negatively reflects on him.
Not saying I agree with it. But I guarantee that is one of the reasons they go along with it.

why is there "Affirmative action"?

WHen there's no go-to black fake interviewee, doesn't getting identified as the fake black interviewee of the moment benefit the brother?

but that is the thing, its not a fake interview, teams may not plan on hiring them but they interview them like any other coach. its giving a black coach the interview experience they weren't getting before.
whether you believe it or not the interview is important especially for teams that plan on hiring an asst. coach who has never been a head coach.
and why should we care that the nfl forces teams to interview a black coach, the coach can turn down the interview just as easy as accepting it. it is just giving them an opportunity they were not getting 10 years ago. and teams will hire who they feel is best for the job regardless of whom they have interviewed.

I bet Norm Chow gets a couple of interviews. He's enough of a minority, right?

I agree. I'm all for hiring the best candidate, regardless of race, but this rule is ridiculous. I wonder if the rule is having the opposite effect of what it is intended to do.

he's the wrong one

So what exactly is the punishment if you don't interview a minority candidate?

If I were the cowboys I'd go out of my way to make a mockery of it. Bring in a local black HS coach and call it a day.
