We had an awesome hunting trip this week!!
I brought two friends who had never killed a whitetail. One shot two does. One shot two does and an 11 point buck.
After they had their fun, I hunkered down and shot a doe, an 11 point buck and a pig!!!

The pig hunt was from the ground. We were in thick brush and there were lots of pigs. We had them all around us and did not have the safety of being in a stand. It was very exciting!!! I certainly felt vulnerable a time or two. But when we got the chance, I put mine down!!!

The buck was rutting. He was following a doe. I saw him earlier in the day and couldn't get a shot. Luckily, the doe brought him back around my stand. I got a clean shot at about 75 yards. Shot him with a 270wsm / 140 grain accubond. Heart and lungs. He didn't go far. He did, however, run into a tree when he bolted. He broke off his left G4 with the impact. If you can't see it in the picture, he has a split brow tine on the left.

We had a great time!!

I have a friend in Texas who has four cattle farms. He doesn't hunt. It is heaven for hunters.

West of Houston.

One of his properties is infested with pigs. We went after them on foot. It was crazy cool.

sure as hell is. Really gets the old blood pumping, especialy if you have seen a hit hog turn and charge the shooter before.

You need to try it with dogs and a knife if you really want a thrill.

I have seen a pig hunt go awry on the internet before.

And I've researched the use of dogs for pig hunting. It seems like a huge rush. Takes some cojones. I'm down for it next time I get a chance.

I will say When I first heard of this I thought of big burly guys. Being a big guy myslef I will tell you that hunting with dogs and knives favors the small agile hunter. Those damn hogs and the following dogs go in places that no man should want to go. The shorter guys never clear the briars and limbs so good protective eyewear is a must.

Well, you gotta convince my wife that I deserve another hunting trip this season.
Otherwise, next year. LOL!

I experienced exactly that. We all had scratched eyes from branches and briars. I scratched my right eye (vision blurred) just before a couple of the hogs stormed past us. I couldn't see shite and that was not how I wanted to go down.

I see your point about agility and endurance. You better be ready to move if dogs are tracking and pushing pigs.
