Does rattling, doe in heat scents and the like work in South Louisiana?
Also, what is the shelf life for scents, should I throw out last years bottles?

All depends on your location. Where I hunt, there are so many does that there is little to no competition for the bucks. If they hear a rattle, they'll just head the other way for easier piece of tail.

In east Texas where I hunt I have had mixed results. Rattling produces early season but only the smaller bucks as our doe buck ratio is off.
With scents I have had estrus scents work as a drag during the rut but they dont seem to bring them in when just hung up. I atually think I see less deer when I go to the trouble of hanging a scent wick.
As far as animal urine cover scents (doe, racoon, red fox) I think they may actually be a negative.
I have had some positive results with starting mock scrapes with the tinks mok scrape spray. The bucks followed up on about 1/3 rd of the ones I started.
Mostly, I think I am being a victim of advertisment and inexperience though.

In central Mississippi I try it every year but I can honeslty say I have never rattle up a deer of any kind.
