Alright, I will hopefully be on the LSU bass fishing team after next weekend. I have 2 brand new bait casters i need to put rods on.
I currently have
Quantum Accurist 7:0:1 on a Falcon 6'6 Medium Light Rod
Johnny Morris Sig series spinning reel and a Symetre both on 7'0 Fenwick HMX rods.
I like the spinning reels for my top water frog and cranks. My delima is what size and action rods for my 2 new reels.
I am leaning toward a 7'0 flipping rod for fishing worms
and maybe a 6'6 for whatever else. Trying to stay around $100 each. TIA

St. Croix Mojo Bass Meduim Heavy 7 foot.Only $99 at BPS or Dicks. It says spinnerbait on the handle but it is the best spinnerbait/jig/worm/carolina rig rod I have found for the money. It is stout enough to be used as a flipping rod as well.
I like them so much I bought 3 of them
Hope this helps and good luck joining LSU fishing team

I was hoping you'd respond to this actually. You usually have a pretty good say...
And i've been looking at that rod for 2 years now
Think its about time i just buy it.... you suggest fluorocarbon line if i'm going to be worm fishing with it mainly?

Yea I always go with flourocarbon with any bait that sinks. I don't know the lakes or structure you'll be fishing but I use P-line Flouro 15lb test.

Since you will be fishing on the team and every fish counts buy the highest quality equipment you can afford. Stay away from BassPro junk buy the cheaper GLoomis rods.
If your fishing a spinning rod for topwater frogs and crank baits you need to really watch more pros fish!

+1

Also, if you or anyone is looking for a pretty decent inexpensive rod the newer Carbonlite rods at BPS are worth consideration. Great value

What does that matter? I've fished with spinning for 10+ years now and only in the past 4 have i used bait casters. I get more action out of the baits with those rod and reels. If there are fish to be caught, I catch as many/more than whoever is fishing with me.

This was also a consideration. The guy i will be fishing with for the team had an ex-pro working at BPS recommend it. pretty nice rod IMO

Damn fine rod. I have one and it outperforms some of my other more expensive rods. Also Academy has a few All Star platinum's on clearance for like $60. They are discontinued and originally sold for $200. Another damn fine rod especially for the price.

saw those today. the regular 199 are 99 and 129 are 79 .... Academy by you may be cheaper... but the one for 99 is pretty sweet. Thinking about getting that and the mojo bass tomorrow

FWIW I use spinning on very light weight cranks.
On frogs not so much... but hey how you fish is your business.
Alot of people like those carbonlite rods. I personally have not fished one, but holding it in the store it seemed a little less sensitive than the St. Croix.
The trick I use to check sensitivity is I hold two different rods in each hand and let the tips barely tick together. The one I can feel tick the best is the winner.

i think you can get them at this price on cabelas web site too...
for 90 bucks... its the best rod on the market....
i have a ton of them... i use the one on the link as a rat rod and flipping stick. but if was looking for an all purpose, i'd go with the 6'9" mh action with a fast tip... you can use it for anything from rattle trap to a worm rod...
honestly for 90 bones.. you wont beat it.

Did u actually scan them? Cuz i bought one that was marked $99, but when I got to the register it was $60. It was one in BR, either Seigan or Cortana, I cant remember.

no, i just saw the price tag. But, i'm going to academy again right now to check it out.
I'm not big on the Carrot Stick. A lot of my friends use them and i know they're good rods, they just don't do anything for me.

i own a boat load of em... ive broke 3 or so but each time they give me another one hassle free... cant complain... for the price.. they are the most sensitive rod if used.
especially if you can get em for 89.99

This is why I'm not a big fan of carrotsticks. I have heard the horror stories from the tourney fisherman in my area. NO rod should break under proper use IMO.I don't cre if they replace it hassel free or not.
If I break a rod it is useless until I get replaced and in a tourney that is devastating.
