re: Homestead Exemption

I forgot to declare homestead exemption when I moved into my house. I went to the assessors office and declared it after I received my bill. They just gave me a receipt that showed a portion was paid because of homestead exemption. They did not print out a new tax bill. Make sure you explain this to your mortgage company though. I attached my receipt to the tax bill showing a portion was paid when I sent it off, but the mortgage company paid the full amount. It took me six months to get the money back in my escrow account.
