I know we have discussed this - My vote is Steven Ridley- he is cut in the Hester mold

JJ gearing up for his run at the Heisman

"18" had one good season. Let's all just slowly back away from this short-lived, ineffective tradition.

Murphy will probably be granted another year and continue to wear it.

We have been discussing at work and we all think Ridley gets it.

When is the last time #18 was worth a damn? 2007? Sounds like a curse for injuries.

I like the thought behind the tradition. What I can't figure out is why some don't like it so much. It seems to me that you either really like it or you are ambivalent. But to be against it? Does not compute.
Anyway, I want Ridley to wear it. A stud player who waited his turn and is making the most of it.

Really? Are you that new to LSU football?
I consider myself a young tiger fan(my first season was '95) and I can remeber three tigers with good seasons.
Dixon - junior season had good numbers for a tight end
Hester - senior season, hope I don't need to elaborate.
Mauck - 13-1 SEC and National Champs...

There is no tradition...of the 4 people who wore it, 2/4 were hurt all the time and barely produced . How is that tradition?

Since Mett will be likely be issued angels wings made by Nike, I say that "18" should be given to Ridley.
Would it be taboo to give it to a defensive player?
Reuben Randle would be a good one too.

First they need to burn Murphy's # 18 to get all the bad JU JU out of it. Then give a new 18 to Ridley.

I don't understand why people don't like the #18 (new) tradition. What is wrong with passing the number to someone who represents LSU well on and off the field, who has overcome adversity and puts the team first? Those posting that a given #18 had a bad year or got hurt are missing the point. Being awarded #18 does not imply or guarantee a great season for the wearer. It is to recognize their commitment to the team before getting the number.
