3rd in the West?

Are there really second and third place tiebreakers? I don't think they exist. Seems like we tied for 2nd in the West, even if we lost to the other 2nd place team.
Not trying to downplay the loss, or over-glorify the season, but heard two Hog fans congratulate us on 3rd in the west (smugly)...not buying it.

In a technical, Ole Miss kind of way we're second as we share the same record as Arkansas.
Practically we're third as we have the same record as the team we lost to head to head--the same team that for that reason is going to a bowl game that pays $17 M and we are going to one that pays $4.

FWIW, we finished 3rd in the West in 2006 (on tiebreaker) and then finished 3rd in the nation after the bowl.
If we win our bowl and go 11-2, I won't really care about where we finished behind AU.

technically tied for 2nd, why would there be a tiebreaker for something that is totally irrelevant. Outside of first place, there is absolutely nothing tied to where you finish in your division.

I know there are "internal" tiebreakers as bowls consider who to take, but yes, I'm talking "technically".

This is my exactly my point. Technically we tied for second.
It's also possible that I'm sensitive to it since I live in Little Rock.
