Where do you have him on your list of top movie coaches/mangers.

Definitely at the top. He took a team of kids that could barely skate and built a championship caliber infrastructure, got them new equipment, recruited a big time talent in Adam Banks, by the second movie the team was an international force to be reckoned with. He also built forechecking schemes that played to the team's strengths, the flying V is the best example of that.

He was also able to determine whether or not he could drive his limo onto the frozen lake.

Think of the job he did with Charlie, started off as an unathletic spaz and ended up being a great leader.

Bombay is the ultimate coach. District 5 sucked when he took over.

Bombay was coaching against idiots. The Flying V can be easily blown the frick up but they just skated backwards like idiots when it was coming at them.

And he snagged the milf while helping Charlie out.
Also, doesn't the flying V cause the ducks to be offsides if they don't pass at a particular point? This makes the play less robust.

False. He made Banksie play for the Ducks against his will.

His D2 coaching job is amazing. To take a team comprised of kids from a single youth team in the Twin Cities, along with kids from non-traditional hockey cities like Miami, Dallas, and Los Angeles and have them compete against the likes of Trinidad and Iceland in a junior tournament is amazing. He also had a good eye for talent, bringing in Russ "Knucklepuck" Tyler, when his team needed an extra spark.
And you have to give him props for his motivational work in the first film when he took 5-star running back Fulton Reed, who was already carrying offers from Florida State and Notre Dame (I think) and convinced him to give hockey a shot.

He was also an excellent game motivator/ game day coach. The speech he gave in the Finals of the Junior Goodwill Games will go down in infamy. He not only taught Luis Mendoza how to stop, he substituted Russ Tyler in for Goldberg but in typical Gordon Bombay fashion he disguised Tyler as Goldberg without anyone noticing in order to get the game tying knucklepuck shot. Also in his infinite wisdom he knew to substitute Julie "the cat" Gaffney in for Goldberg to face Gunner Stahl, he also knew that Gunner would go gloveside because in Gordan's words he was "fancy."
