Did Les Miles become a legend yesterday?

Or has he at least taken another step on that road?
Not because of his winning record. That is great and of course necessary in major college football but that's not enought to make him a legend. There are other coaches with great records.
Not becase he competes in the best conference against some of the best coaches in the country. That helps too. But his record is certainly not spotless in this conference and against these coaches.
Not even primarily because of his flashy "trick" play calling . Though I think this one hits closer to the mark. These plays are not only gutsy but they are almost always well timed, well thought out and thorougly prepared and practiced.
No, the things that seem to be setting him apart are the colorful things that he says and now even does. We've all got used to his "way with words". But yesterday with the grass incident and the great quotes about it from him and R.S. I think has set him apart.
It's almost like we're watching and listening to a new Dizzy Dean or Yogi Berra. I for one love it.

There are a few people on this board that will never concede legend status to Miles. I believe if he wins out and all other cards fall into place, gets a shot at a MNC and wins: there would still be doubters. Too bad for them, I'm personally enjoying all the crow these asshats are having to eat today.

No about another 250 wins!

A coach of character. Joe Pa is probably going to retire soon and pass on the torch of ol' school coaching integrity (e.g. not doing the popular thing but the right thing)...
who will be the heir of this torch?
That's what I'm seeing as a possibility, and yes, Les Miles.
And LSU has 'em.

When you get to Joe Pa status then you are a legend. But I will say that Miles is really coming close to becoming one of the best coaches in LSU history. He is third on the all time wins list for LSU. The two men in front of him are Charles McCledon and Bernie Moore. Neither of whom have National Championships.

I was in the Miles is a good coach camp before yesterday, but legend or legend like step might be a tad over the top.

He sure went a long way toward it, by running another important trick play that worked.
He is probably close to being a legend, now, for his willingness to take chances, in order to grab a chance to win a game.
He doesnt go quietly, that's for sure. The plays the last 30 seconds of the first half showed that.

Dude, no good coach, in his right mind, would EVER, EVER want to follow a legend like JeauxPa. It would not be like following $aban...it would be the equivalent of Ray Perkins following Bear Bryant- impossible to live up to.

He's was already a Legend after the 2007 Florida, Bama, and Auburn wins. This just adds to it.

he needs more time to be a legend. if he continues to win and stays long enough to be the face of lsu football (yrs from now when someone mentions lsu), he will indeed, be a legend. he's definately got singular traits like yogi and dizzy.

It was Les' best coached game since Ohio State.

I don't think he was talking about following Jo Pa as the coach of Penn State.
