Russell Shepard hype vs. reality

Not trying to dog on players or anything:
What has SHEP done this year?
Listening and reading most of the posts on this board he was supposed to be like some super freak of an athlete........LSU's saving grace if you will!
Shep hasn't shown me shite this year!
I think a lot of our problems as fans begin with believing everything we read about our recruits. Sometimes these superstar high school athletes don't perform well at the next level. How often have we heard about our superior talent level only to be disappointed with the performance on the field. I'll believe it when I see it on the field from now on.

Really? You are going to blame Shepard. LSU has 3 5 star wide receivers, several 4-5 star running backs, and very talented tight ends. You tell me, who besides Ridley has shown anything this year?

maybe it's the 3 screen passes in the backfield he gets every game when Toliver can't hold that initial block.
maybe it's the formation of him coming in motion every game knowing he's going to run the sweep.
maybe it's because he is ONLY getting 5 touches a game...the bubbles screens and sweep = 5.
maybe

Ridley is a good back but nothing all world.
Bottom line is that our coaches have no clue how to use real talent.

The LSU fanbase has now officially gone insane.

Miles has to give him the ball first.

We lose to Bama, Ole Miss, and Arky and Shep will show you lots next season.

to say that he is a "bust" would mean that he has been put in a position buy the coaches where he could showcase his talents and hasn't....
I don't think that he has been put in a position to showcase what he can do....

He has caught a lot of terribly thrown screen passes that set him up for failure.

I agree 100% With a starting quarterback that can't throw for 100 yards a game, what do you expect? When the receiver has to stop and grab a ball at his ankles, behind him, over his head, what do you expect. And with play calling simplified as to where everyone in the stands know what is coming. If the coaches would have stuck with their passing QB, this would be a much different offense.

The coaching staff has officially ruined him. The #1 recruited dual threat qb - never to throw a pass. An extreme waste of talent.

Well considering that LSU has exactly two plays to get him the ball, how is he supposed to show you anything. The screen plays were figured out last season, and that leaves only the jet sweep which was figured out after his two long runs early on.
At the beginning of the season, all of the pundits said that he much touch the ball 15 times a game. He maybe touches it 5 times a game. This coaching staff doesn't know how to use him at all. Really sad.

They really aren't setting him up for success.

plus i don't know if he's really being coached to play the position properly -- you can say the same thing for TT.

So you are going to blame the kid for the following:
Horrible OC
Horrible QB coach
Disaster of a WR coach
Meddling HC
Shitty OL coach
Really? LSU's offensive staff is just pathetic from top to bottom outside of maybe Wilson.
Les has a shitty OC and OL coach, like he screwed up our DL hired a bunch of recruiters with little coaching ability for our other position coaches.
Yet somehow it is the kids fault that every highly regarded offensive recruit for LSU is struggling badly right now and has nothing to do with the coaches.

someone posted in another thread about how we're overestimating how much talent we have. i don't think that's the case, we look at the same recruiting services as everyone else plus we beat out other prominent programs to sign these kids.
obviously, the entire recruiting system has hits/misses, but it defies logic to think that we have an unusual accumulation of guys that were simply overrated coming out of high school. clearly lots of people recognized these kids' talent and ability in high school, so you can only conclude we're failing to either coach 'em up or run a system that maximizes their talent.

Really duisgusting.

Maybe if he had a OC who could utilize his playmaking ability or a QB who could consistently get him the ball? At least he'd only drop the ball 50% of the time since he'll get double the opportunities.
