Jason Whitlock from Fox sports says " Notre Dame's Kelly must go!" because of the death of the student filming practice this week.

quote:

Before Notre Dame reaches a financial settlement with the family of Declan Sullivan, the 20-year-old videographer who died in a tragic practice accident, the school must sever ties with its first-year head football coach.

quote:

Kelly should not coach the Irish on Saturday when they take on Tulsa.

quote:

We don’t need a thorough and exhaustive investigation to recognize Kelly’s negligence. A coach’s most important job, particularly at the amateur level, is to take every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of the young people under his control.

Agree or not? I dont think so.

Wrong board. But no, he shouldn't be fired. Whitlock should stick to what he does best...race bating.

As much as I like Kelly I agree. You are the head coach and the buck stops with him. Any one of those coaches should have told the kid to come down. When you see a kid going up a tower in 50 mph winds common sense has to kick in.

It didn't for the kid. I hate that he died, but if that was me, I'd have told the coach to eff off.

If the kid didn't want to do it, and was forced to in any way by any person on the coaching staff.

The entire staff should be let go.

Yea, but as dumb as the kids decision to go up was he is still just a young kid and kids often do stupid things. When your an adult you should make better choices. Any one of those coaches could have used common sense but not one did.

24 hours before the accident, this is what Tressel said regarding the wind that day.

quote:

“I don’t know if we’ll be inside or out,” Tressel told Ohio reporters 24 hours before the Notre Dame tragedy. “It looks a little nasty. I worry about our cameramen, their well-being up there 50 feet in the air.

First, prayers sent to the family for their lose, but this was a freak accident. Kelly had no way of knowing what would happen. Now if the platform he was on was swaying back and forth and making breaking sounds and Kelly told him he better stay up there, then yes he should be fired, but that isn't the case from what I've heard.

Coaches dont control those staff memebers. They have supervisors and are a part of the athletic department. Brian Kelly has no say in the filming of his pracitices.

I just wonder if the coaches knew how bad the wind was up there. If there was some sort of fencing around the field, or some sort of other barrier, they may not have known. That's like if you're in a condo. The wind on the top floor is gonna be alot stronger than that on the bottom.

Even Tressel used common sense and that was 24 hours before. The coaches shouldnt need a policy about sending a kid up a tower in 50 mph winds to determine what to do.

It's not really a freak accident, standing on a 50-60ft scissor platform in 60+mph winds is going to result in something bad somewhat frequently.

I've seen notre damn people say that the coaching staff wasn't in charge of him. That he wasn't hired by Kelly. I don't know if that's true or not though

When your the head coach of a major program making that much money you are in charge of every single thing that goes on around that football field. Think Saban would have sent the kid up there? Heck no, he would have told somone to get that kid down. Anything that goes on around that field you can bet Saban or any other coach worth his salt knows about.

The lift was rated for 25 max winds and it was gust of 50 and 60 that day....

I would hate to see him let go but damn... in the end it falls under his responsibilty and a kid DIED.

Head coaches control everything on the practice field. If the Head Coach moves the football practice indoors, do you really think there would be cameramen 50 feet up in the air in 50-60 MPH winds?

HELL NO.

I don't care if Kelly is fired or not. However, I would like to see him step up and take some responsibility for it.
