Just want to put this out here. I was previously under the impression that leupold rings and bases were the best out there. Well, recently I heard that a custom gunsmith said that they were inadequate for long range shooting. So after having HELL with my 45-70 handi rifle and not being able to get it to group at all I decided to try the gunsmith's advice and go with picatinny rail and tactical scope rings.

I am astounded at well this rifle now shoots. It is literally touching holes at 200 hundred yards. I simply can't believe this rifle is capable of this. I am a believer.

Pictainny FTW indeed. Check out LaRue here LINK for some really high quality optic mounting hardware. All made in TX.

I have used Larue for my AR, but had to use EGW for my handi rifle. I am VERY happy with the product. Also used the EGW base for my dad's A-bolt. Need to put some more rounds through it, but so far I'm happy with it as well.

But damn, 300 dollar single shot rifle in a historically inaccurate round touching holes at 200 yds repeatedly? Damn. Third set of rings and I could get none of them to group at 100 yards. Rings and bases are the only change.

Yea I just ordered my 4th LaRue mount yesterday actually, got a QD mount for my magnifier to go behind my Eotech on my AR. I have the 30mm QD rings on my .270 WSM, even on it you can take it off, replace it and it still holds a perfect zero. Maybe I can convince my dad to put some rails on his sometime lol.

I think the Leupolds are serviceable for most guns, I prefer to use the Talley mount system on guns with heavy recoil...
