“After the Ole Miss game last season, coach Miles was really stressing about the clock management for like three or four weeks afterwards,” he said. “We were working on it all the time. Then this season, we’ve gotten away from it, and the exact same thing comes right back to bite us. It was like, ‘Wow, this is happening all over again.’ Did we learn from it? Are we doing it all over again? We got extremely lucky to win the game. So, we’ve got to figure out what we’re doing wrong with clock management. They said they were going to fix the problem, but that same exact thing happened again.”

Quotes above from Ridley.
Sean Payton practices 2 minute drill every week.

Sean payton doesn't have JJ trying to run a 2 minute drill. As a D-1 QB, it's common sense that should take over. Hey the clock is running, I need to stop it! Let spike it then set up a play with the right it's on the field.

That never crossed jeffersons mind

Wow, this is a startling quote from a senior RB. It's clear the players recognize the deficiencies in the staff.

Miles is to blame for not having 2 plays called in that situation. But at some point in the 30 seconds your 3rd year qb has to take control of the offense and at least clock it to regroup. Apparently the only person that learned anything from Ole Miss was T-Bob.

Oh please, Hebert knew what to do and JJ did not. End of story.

That's my point. They have freaking Drew Brees yet still have to work on it every week. No wonder why JJ is clueless out there. That is on Miles. If you don't prepare, you shouldn't be surprised with shitty results.

Ridley is a junior FWIW, but definitely the leader of the offense (if there is one).

Clocking it is not the right answer anyway. Run a quick pass and get 4 downs out of it. So no, a better answer still would not have been the right answer.

Sean Payton's players don't have to go to class or do homework.

Sean Payton is not limited by the NCAA regulations on how much time he is allowed to practice.

Ok, so we should just skip that part.

When should he have clocked it?

At 15 seconds when the he and the rest of the offense think that our braindead coaches should be signaling in a play?

At 10 seconds when there are 14 guys on the field and everyone is moving?

At 5 seconds, when Ridley and Shepard aren't set?

Maybe at 3 seconds, but T-Bob has already snapped it on his own.

100% on the coaching staff.

Great breakdown...he couldn't have clocked it with all the people running back and forth. And it has nothing to do with JL as I think JL should be starting.

I would disagree.

Given that on second down we had an extra OL in to block and your power run game group on the field getting off a pass was not the best option. Clocking it and allowing yourself time to regroup and get the right grouping on the field was what should have been done. If you want 4 shots at the endzone you needed to pass 4 times. Running the ball on 2nd down would not allow this. The ball needed to be clocked on 3rd down and you play for the game on 4th.

I'm not blaming T-Bob because there was no play called and he did the only did what he thought was right, but had he waited a second for Jefferson to call for the ball, we at least get the play off.

I'll go 80% coaches. As quarterback, he could have called a quick play or a spike. After the 4th down conversion, Lee called a play, ran down the field, and got a nice gain to Peterson.

Do you think that the coaches had multiple plays called to Lee in case we converted? It's possible... but I doubt it. If they are so incompetent that they will send Jefferson out there with only 1 play, then they probably did the same with Lee on the 4th and 14.

Obviously the situation as a whole goes on the coaches' shoulders. But, as the guy who tells players the plays and takes snaps, Jefferson could have done more than he did. If it didn't occur to him after his 1 yard run, then he could have discussed with the coaches before going out there. He can initiate the conversation.

Of course, IMO, Lee should have stayed out there in the first place.
