There wereTWENTY EIGHT SECONDS left, not 2.8, that is an eternity for the coaches to call the play, no reason to run up & spike and run one play when you have enough time to run 2 plays why throw one away at that point?.. but when the COACHES let it run down.. they should have then called for the spike. He did right looking for the play since 1. They did not give him the play 2. No reason to spike it at 28sec 3. By the time he realized they were confused again and did not have a clue they were running a different package on, you have to let them get set or penalty on LSU , game over
