He has done many things. Many low carb type diets {Atkins,Paleo} with some exercise.
I did mainly Atkins with almost zero exercise until I had already dropped 120. Added bike riding to the mix for a while.

Myth is correct. I did Atkins for about 9 months and lost about about 70 pounds IIRC. A year ago I switched to a paleo-esque diet (I still eat cheese sometimes but not much). Powerman says I eat more like the wheat belly diet, but idk really. I just eat. I'm at a point where I just don't eat grains/carbs.
And I do exercise. I lift weights mostly, compound movements at a high intensity, rapid pace.. I find it causes me to not lose as fast on the scale as I build muscle, but my measurements still go down.

And frankly, as I lose more and more, it gets harder and harder to lose. I am often indulging in temptations, and I'm actually pretty happy with myself where I'm at... but I'm still overweight so I know I need to lose more. I eat right the majority of the time, so it still comes off, just slowly.
