I do the Shrevepatch to BR route for games too. My favorite stops on the I-49/Hwy 190/I-10 route are:
Billy's/Ray's in Opelousas, it's really close to I-49. I've only tried Billy's recipe boudin but I need to try Ray's after reading these posts.

Billy's satellite in Krotz Springs for Boudin Balls and cracklins. I agree, the place and it's inhabitants are a little rough around the edges.

Bourqe's in Port Barre about a mile north of Hwy 190. I like their boudin, cracklings and their Jalapeno Sausage Cheese bread.

I haven't tried Bergeron's in Port Allen but I think I'll give them a try the next time I come down for a game.

Where is Billy's in Krotz Springs? I alway stop at Kirshner's grocery at the foot of the bridge on the right if you're head toward Baton Rouge.

I love to load up at Bourque's.

That would be my pick if I went the I49-190 route.

If I went the I49 to I10 route I would stop at Dons in Carencro
