Over reaction to QB performance

Last week Jarret Lee threw one pass, and the Lee fans went bonkers (I actually think at least half of it was sarcasm). This week Jordan Jefferson throws for 97 yards and the JJ fans are dusting off trophy space for the Manning Award.
Can't we all just get along?

People forget it's just a sport. Drink, eat and be merry.

So far this year, not much has happened to advance the JJ vs. JL debate one way or the other.
The only argument that has been put to rest was the one that said JJ was going to dramatically transform his style of play based on your usual sunshine articles from the summer ... and few people ever believed that anyway.
That said, there are still legit arguments for wanting the QB rotation changed. They're just the same ones that existed before the season started.

Most people just want to let the debate be worked out on the game field, not practice field. I think JL should be seeing some significant time, maybe not starting, but atleast getting in the game more. Anyone who thinks he will throw 16 more pics and however many for 6 is just crazy and will be against the kid no matter what he does. The same for those not wanting JJ to play. He showed Saturday that he can play pretty good if the game plan is simplified, and that's a step in the right direction. Let them both show what they bring to the table.

it's very simple- JL fans have the idea that he will go 25-30 for 300 yrds sitting in the back of their mind. i know because i'm one of them. anyway, until we optimists are proved otherwise, then we will bitch about the q.b. situation.
more importantly, if miles would just come out and say "i've watched the both of them progress since spring and i can assure you that jj is outperforming jl by a longshot" then maybe some lee lovers will relax. instead, he is saying how great j.l. is doing at practice, and that just keeps the dream of 300 yrds alive in jl supporters' minds.
kapeesh?

My biggest argument in this debate is that Jordan Jefferson has been given the excuse that he is young and he will improve for 3 years now. Jarret Lee, as a redshirt freshman, was thrown to the wolves with an entirely different game plan and he has been locked in the basement ever since. Les is not going to let Jarret Lee come into blowout games let and throw the ball around because if he performs well, then there will be a huge QB controversy. Les won't allow it.
That being said, I support whatever QB is in the game and hope that they both play great.

Doc, I'm with u. I still think JJ is an always will think he is playing like a freshman. I don't see us competing with sec west unless some one steps up quick at qb. FIELD GOALS ARE NOT GOING TO GET IT WITH BETTER TEAMS IN THE SEC.

My biggest concern is that we have 4 and 5 star talent all over the offense and we are freaking 91st in total offense in the Nation. What is the reason that we still suck on offense????

I think that maybe they "learned" a lesson about that whole deal with Jarrett Lee, and are actually trying to avoid doing it again, this time with JJ. They are keeping things as simple as they can for him, to allow for some successes, so that he's not "baptisted by fire" like Jarrett was...
It seems like neither QB is totally head and shoulders BETTER than the other, and maybe they are just trying to keep from possibly making things worse by messing with it all too much.. JJ has struggled, but then if they play Lee a bunch and it DOESN'T happend to be a much much better situation, then you've got to go BACK to a JJ that feels less confident than ever....
Kind of a dance with the devil you know, rather than the one you're not sure of...

Because passing teams will always get more yardage per game in total offense than running teams.

Except old school triple option teams like Georgia tech still seem to put up good numbers.

it is sickening that we have to "simplify" our offense to help our quarterback, wasting tons of receiving talent and continuing to sputter on offense. wouldn't miles give the backup a chance to compete at any other position before he handcuffed our offense to protect one player?

After 19 games as a starter, I think this baptism thing should be over. We are going to need more drives like the first two of the second half if we are going to get where we want to be. Coaches are going to have to call the plays and Jefferson is going to have to execute them. They are going to have the handcuffs off at some point and let the chips fall

And legit arguments for saying lets not change anything just yet.
12-3 in the last 15 regular season games and a current #12 NR does not exactly point to a team in need of a rotation change in any college football I'm aware of....offensive ranking or not.

Have you seen ACC defenses?

I think we're 3-0, 2-0 in SEC.. I could be wrong.
If the offense plays like they did in the 2nd half, we can compete. Miles preaches "Finish the game strong" and I believe we did just that. Defense was even better in the 2nd half and the offense finally found the endzone. I'd rather be mediocre in the 1st half and open up in the 2nd than do what happened in the UNC game.

JL fans watched his performance in the spring game and then anointed him as the starter, even though the spring game doesn’t come close to matching the speed, pressure, and intensity of an actual SEC game. Then when JJ had a bad game and JL completed a single short pass, the JL fan base went bananas and started demanding that he play. The reality is JL never had a real shot at playing unless JJ got hurt.
Anyway, JJ played really well again Saturday night and the 97 yards of production is primarily a reflection of the incompetent offensive play calling, as JJ did everything that was asked of him, although it wasn’t very much. Hence, the pressure is on the coaches now to remove the shackles they’ve placed on this offense to let the kids play and have fun. Nothing is holding this offense back from being a very good offense other than the coaches and their exceedingly conservative play calling.
As for as JJ’s improvement goes, it is very evident as he looks much better in the pocket, goes through his progressions much faster and better than before, and with the exception of a single bad game in which he was ill, his accuracy has been much better and more consistent.

I would argue this point. We were at the same pt in 08 and 09. We ended up not ranked.

As long as Crowton is the coordinator, we aren't going to have prolific offenses and we won't have QBs that efficiently throw the ball down the field. That's just a Crowton offense.
Why I think Jefferson is the better choice only really has to do with how each QB handles the awful option route passing game that we run.
Lee, in 2008, would make a different read than the primary receiver, lock on the primary receiver, and throw. This caused a lot of turnovers.
Jefferson simply doesn't guess. He waits for the WR to make his cut before he throws. This results in a lot of sacks and short passes.
