I agree with this. Ridley did exactly what a leader should do.

This is just a WAG, but when Ridley says "work", I believe he's referring to the process of learning LSU's plays (i.e. homework). Anyone who cannot consistently evaluate the defense and adjust their responsibilities accordingly, won't play. That's my take. Again, disclaimer: WAG

He might not even have meant anything other than a standard bland reply - it is unfortunate that many reporters/editors tend to rework such plain articles to provoke interest and discussion.
