Whisenhunt's decision came following a meeting Monday afternoon with Leinart after the former Heisman Trophy winner told reporters that he had outplayed Anderson in training camp and preseason and that his problem with his coach "probably goes beyond football."

technically, if u look at the stats, he has outplayed Anderson.

I agree, but most of his passing yards came from 5 yard dump offs

Exactly. Not exactly NFL caliber.

always been an immature primadonna

I've got Leinart's back on this. Whisenhunt (while a very good coach and one of the best in-game managers in the NFL) inherited Leinart and has obviously HATED him from the word go.
I'd love to have the Saints pick up Matt if the Cards release him.

yes I'm sure whisenhunt is going to put his career in the hands of derek anderson because he has a grudge against matty.

Whisenhunt is untouchable for the next 4 seasons. Leinart isn't the next Johnny Unitas I'm just saying that Ken hates him and would rather roll with Anderson (arguably as good as Leinart) than with a dude he hates.

82% passing and a 110 QB rating. zero INTS
Anderson is like at 56% and has thrown 2 picks.
he has outplayed him, bottom line.

I've heard the team as a whole isn't big on leinart, so it may just have more to do with him being a prick vs. ken picking on him

Matt Leinart gaining a reputation as Captain Checkdown
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 26, 2010 11:23 AM ET
Matt Leinart has completed 10-of-13 passes this season, but those passes have averaged a measly 5.9 yards per attempt.
It's grossly unfair to draw conclusions from a limited sample size in the preseason, but Leinart struggled to stretch the field last year as well. He threw 77 passes and averaged only 5.6 yards per attempt.
Leinart didn't embarrass himself against the Titans last regular season in his start, but he only led the team to one offensive touchdown. And the Titans are noticing a trend in Leinart's play after facing him again this preseason.
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic relays a story from the Cardinals-Titans joint practices on Wednesday. A Titans cornerback watched Leinart approach the line of scrimmage and told his teammates on the sideline, "I got a buffalo nickel that says he checks down." (It turned out to be a running play.)
It's a small thing, but the Titans have seen Leinart play more than any team of late. Leinart has to prove to his teammates and opposing defenses that he won't always check down when he's pressured.

I've heard from several Cardinals insiders (beat writers, radio guys) on Sirius that Ken has always hated Leinart. I'm just going by what I remember.
Here's a link to an article that I just found off a quick Google search..

et's get one thing straight on this quarterback change for Saturday's pre-season game against the Chicago Bears.
This is not about trying to light a fire under Matt Leinart's rear end.
This has nothing to do with trying to motivate Leinart or making him mad or challenging him.
Simply put - Matt Leinart is just not Ken Whisenhunt's guy.
Never has been. Never will be.
How else can you explain how Leinart only got nine reps vs. the Tennessee Titans Monday of which three were runs that each resulted in negative yards. Let's also remember that Leinart didn't have Larry Fitzgerald or Early Doucet in the lineup and it was Tim Hightower running, not Beanie Wells when he was in the game.
Good quarterbacks very, very, very rarely become available in free agency. These NFL teams know what they are doing and when they have a good quarterback they lock him up, they don't send him into the market.
Good quarterbacks are drafted and developed and that was supposed to be the case with Leinart. But the left-handed signal caller was drafted by Denny Green, not Whisenhunt. And therein lies the problem.
Leinart desperately wants his coach to believe in him, have confidence in him, and treat him like a man and maybe had Whisenhunt tried that approach it may have worked out.
Instead Whisenhunt has continually played mind games with Leinart, never fully embracing him as the starter and always having him look over his shoulder.

that is dated Aug 26
he went 9 of 10 and he is now 19-23 and is averaging 7.0 yards per att.
comapred to Anderson's 5.4. And he just cited 5.9 as measly?
Posted on 8/31/10 at 9:52 pm to Lester Earl
Anderson's completion % was 44 last year and 50% the year before, and we are supposed to believe he has nothing against Leinart personally?
who cares if Leinart dumps it down. Better than what Anderson can do. Esp coming from Kurt Warner to Anderson? They are in for a rude awakening in that department

Leinart has a legit beef. Why the hell would Wiz want to play Anderson anyways, hasnt doen shite besides one decent season. Atleast let Leinart fall on his face then put in Anderson

People want to hate on Leinart b/c he's good looking and goofed around and went to USC. Once the NFL fandom hates you (hello, Philip Rivers) you will never be liked. Leinart, Cutler, Quinn and Rivers are all despised by fans it seems (Quinn for many of the same reasons as Leinart - good looking guy, kind of cocky and douchey, went to a hated school).
He's played well enough in live NFL regular season action to warrant a full season as the Cards' starter to either sink or swim. It's not like he's gone out and sucked time and time again. He had a very decent rookie season and ended with something like 3 or 4 straight wins. He played well last year at Tennessee and Young beat him with a last second TD pass again. His numbers this preseason are fine - better than Anderson's and efficient as hell.
Leinart just isn't good at ingratiating himself with coaches and teammates from what I gather. Maybe he could learn how to better do that after some humble pie (being cut) and sitting behind a consummate leader (Brees, Manning, etc).
The truth of the matter is that Larry Fitzgerald hates him b/c he doesn't throw deep very often and Whisenhunt has never liked him. From all the anecdotal evidence I've heard over the past 3 seasons it's more of a leadership/personality thing than a talent thing. The beauty of the NFL is that we'll find out. He'll get picked up by somebody who wants him and he'll get another chance eventually.

respect/trust is earned, not given
Its sort of ironic his name is Leinart and yet he is so not confident in his ability. If he just manned up, did his hw, made the throws he is supposed to, believed in himself, he would be a good qb in the NFL.

So why would the Cards want to start a guy who won't get the ball to their best player?
