I'll start:

Jackie Brown is superior to Pulp Fiction.

OK, if you guys want a smack down, I'll give it a try. I think the notion that Jackie Brown is better than Pulp Fiction is a classic case of backlash. Something, in this case Pulp Fiction, gets so much praise and hype from critics and fanboys a like, that it can not possibly live up to the expectations. Naturally people who see it after getting so much hype are somewhat skeptical and because they have been told its the greatest thing ever it has no where to go but down and they will never be able to judge the movie on the merits with being influenced by the hype. Note I realize that may not be the case for all on this board, but generally speaking, I think that is the case, not just about PF.

Now, I really like Jackie Brown, its great, like Pulp Fiction its has great characters and great dialogue and like Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown resurrected a couple of careers. But its much more conventional than Pulp Fiction, especially for a QT movie. There is nothing innovative or different about Jackie Brown. Its a really good crime drama, just like the very comparable Out of Sight.

I know most of you would agree that Pulp Fiction is much more influential movie and has been probably the most imitated movie since it was released. Its hard now to appreciate how different Pulp Fiction was when it was released, but it was. Its completely character and dialogue driven and not in chronological order. Pulp Fiction was really not like anything we had seen before. I can see people that argue for Resivior Dogs over Pulp Fiction, though I disagree, but Jackie Brown

Well said. I was going to leave the Pulp Fiction thing alone. Personally for me, it changed a lot about how I felt about movies when I saw it as a kid. I watched Jackie Brown and enjoyed it, but the film is not nearly as groundbreaking or powerful. I view Jackie Brown as the generic Tarantino film. Out of all the films that he has written, counting True Romance and Natural Born Killers, Jackie Brown has the least complex plot and character development. It is a simple heist movie that was pulled off extremely well. That is all. I don't have a problem with anyone liking it over Pulp Fiction.

I am a huge QT fan and love Pulp Fiction. However, of all 90's movies, I would say The Matrix is the most imitated.

ETA: I think I'm finished hogging the thread for now. That's what I get for getting in so late.

not being a dick, but pulp fiction liberally borrows from other movie genre tropes frankensteined successfully into a collage of a movie. not a lot of it is original or novel. QT borrows a lot of stylistic elements from foreign, noir, pulp, and western movies. though he does it to devastatingly good effect in some cases.

the only movie that clearly takes from his style seems to be the boondock saints
