Emmit was great, but also behind a fantastic offensive line and almost NEVER injured. I know injuries play a huge part in careers, but if you're going for RB GOAT, I think you have to take their peaks into account too.

I don't think Emmitt was the best running back ever, but I think he was the best-used running back ever. They really got the most out of that guy. Solid back made legendary with a great team and good coaching.
Here's my list of best ever:
1. Barry Sanders
2. Walter Payton
3. Jim Brown
4. Earl Campbell
5. Eric Dickerson
6. Emmitt Smith
7. O.J. Simpson
8. Ladanian Tomlinson
9. Tony Dorsett
10. Gale Sayers
