Do you eat bar fish (small stripers?)

I've been eating them for years and I think that people are ignorant about this species of fish. Most of the ones I catch are no bigger than a big bream (about 12 oz.) and I occasionally catch one over a pound. They are some of the cleanest fish I have ever eaten.

yes we do. not a bad eating fish if you clean them right. you must trim the red meat out. i also soak in lemon juce.
i will also add. when you find them schooling, they are a blast to catch.

I don't know what red meat you are talking about. I'm fixing to post a picture of what I call a bar fish and what you call a bar fish. The ones I fillet are all white meat, no red. Will post a pic shortly.

White bass, bar fish, small stripers.
I say Potato you say Po tot O. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. These fish are tasty as hell and are easier to fillet than almost any fish I have ever put a knife to.

There is a flat red piece of flesh on the lateral side of the filet, about midline on the fish. I like to take my filet knife and take it out as well.
Fresh I like them fine.
But I also do a striper the same way, and think it is great fried, if fresh.

believe it or not, i did a comparison one night. we had reds, catfish, and the trash bar fish. after doing my thing, everyone wanted more of the trash fish.

serious?

Very serious, I read the tip in the Louisiana Sportsman magazine and tried it with specks and catfish. Works like a charm. The Citric Acid in the MTN Dew cuts the fish oils and the sugar in the DEW soaks into the meat.
Soak fillets overnight in a ziplock then drain and prepare as normal. Works fantastic

Dayum, I gotta try that Mountain Dew trick. It can't hurt if I just put twenty or so fillets in a zip lock overnight. If I don't like it, it's just a few fillets. Thanks for the tip.
