That I am incapable of buying a handgun or picking one. Can one of the cops on here steal a gun from evidence locker and ship it to me for 50 bucks. Just an old 9mm or 38 taken off of a crackhead.

Why do want it?
Purpose of weapon?
Price?
Affordibilty of ammo?
Affordabilty of range time?
Answer these first.

Home defense but also something nice to have to take to the range and out shooting for recreation.

400 to 600 bucks. Champagne taste on a beer budget though.

I know 9mm is the way to go here. I think I want bigger, but 9mm does make sense. PRice wise and for putting practice rounds through.

Well 40 is the way to go. still cheaper to shoot than 45 and more knockdown power than the 9mm

You said home defense and range time. So get a full size gun to make shooting easier and more fun. Subcompacts can jump on you depending on the size and caliber.

Have you least narrowed down brands and styles or are you still fighting that battle.

My top of the list.

Sig... Pricey for what I am wanting to spend. Unless I buy a sp2022 in .9mm

CZ.... Looking CZ75 sp01 again pricey. Also looking at the 97b which is only in a .45.

Springfield XD just need to hold one and like it the way I liked the sp01.

I bought the M&P .40 and I love it. Believe it cost me around 500 new. Great shooting gun. Its my daily conceiled carry pistol. I've put about 1500 rds through it and no problems. Came with three interchangable backstraps to fit different size hands.

Save your money and buy the gun you really want. Buy once cry once.

I am pretty close to driving to Katy, dragging you to a gun shop and holding your hand while you do it.

Pick one, drive to a range, shoot a lot. You will be happy.

He just needs to come to terms with the fact there is no perfect pistol or caliber for all situations. Its kind of like golf clubs you can't play 18 holes with one club

This is the thing. You are new to pistols so you have no preferences. Seriously, you will probably be happy with anything you buy, because even if it's less then stellar, you won't know there's any other way. All the weapons you are considering will be great choices.

Springfield XD's is a high priced HS 2000. A few years back, you could get a HS 2000 for $250. Springfield buys them out and stamps their name on them and the price soars up. So what I'm saying is don't but brand buy something practical. Like another poster said you'll like whatever you get, just pull the trigger and get something practical.

For the price, go Glock... Awesome gun, dependable, great resale value.

You want a lil cheaper go with those S&W. They arent bad for the price.

The S&W Sigma series is by far the most practical choice, especially for the new handgun owner.

A S&W revolver with a 4" barrel in .357 magnum. Shoot .38 special out of it 90% of the time for less recoil.
