Dale Brown has a new blog where he posts many of the inspirational messages that he has delivered over the years. He also summarizes some of the books that he has read over time. Today, one of the books that are summarized is "Coming Back Stronger" by Drew Brees.
Coach Brown also lists his fifty favorite books which is interesting. Of course the books by Dr Vincent Peale & John Wooden are high on his list.
Whether you love or hate Coach Brown as a basketball coach, no one can deny that he is a good man and an incredible motivational speaker. He really has done so much for so many over his life. I am grateful that he chose to come to LSU and am happy that he has remained in Louisiana over the past 30 years.

While Coach Brown's coaching strategies were sometimes questionable, what isn't debatable was his ability to motivate a player beyond his potential.

Are you his agent or do you just work for the LSU athletic department?

if he drops some football predictions and recruiting updates, he might develop a following to rival the Dandy One.

Regarding Knight's famous quote.
Yes, there was a lot of Dale Brown did wrong as a coach.
But there's something to be said for not strangling your players.
That's a lot of books too!

A very dear friend of mine was fighting cancer in about 1994. I called the Athletic Department and explained to them that my friend was sick, but that he wanted to see an LSU basketball game and needed good tickets (I offered to pay for the tickets). One day after my request I got a phone call from an assistant in the basketball office who told me that Coach Brown would like me and my friend to be his guest for the Mississippi State Basketball game. We were issued one day press passes for the game that enabled us to enter the locker room before and after the game as well as sit behind the bench during the game.
Dale took special care to spend some quality time with my friend before and after the game and ask him about his illness and his treatments. Dale signed the official scorers sheet and a program along with several other pieces of memorabilia and gave them to my friend. Each was emblazoned with some Dale Brown optimistic slogan. My buddy's wife had all of these items framed and he proudly displayed them in his home for over a year. Unfortunately, they now hang on a wall in my home.
My friend died about 18 months after this visit with Dale Brown. He was 30 year old.
Now, when I look at this framed collage of signed memorabilia, I not only think about a dear friend, I think about Dale Brown.
Was Dale a good coach? That's like asking if Mother Theresa was a good cook. Who cares?
