The absolute best way I've seen is to get one of those collapsible paint stirrers that you hook up to a drill to aerate the wort.

I usually just set the carboy on a cushion of some sort and rock it back and forth several times.

BTW, if you don't have one of these, get one: LINK. Those glass carboys can get slippery and heavy, and I've heard more than a few horror stories about accidents with them.
