what's your favorite model over the last 10 years and why...

mine: 03-05 250 Yamaha HPDI...because it has the best dealer network for service, it makes power the conventional way and it is a dependable model (like the ox66s were)... and I can repower my boat for under $16k...

The new Yamaha VMAX SHO's are badass. One of my friends has a 250 on his Skeeter bay boat.

I repowered mine with twin 300 Suzukis. They're pretty awesome. Only have 130 hours on 'em, but they run great and are VERY efficient for big motors on a big boat. I have a 31 Cape Horn FWIW. Did an overnight trip saturday night 135 out, trolled all afternoon, idled all night, trolled all morning, 135 miles back in and burned 185 gallons. That's not bad.

BTW--the 250 hpdi's don't have a very good reputation as far as reliability goes--hence they're no longer made. You're lucky you have a good set...

I don't have the yamahas.... I have a pair of 01 Mercury 225 Optimaxes that leaves my boat underpowered and struggling to get out of the hole... I need more torque but with dependability... Are your suzukis 2 strokes ? I have heard good things about those but I have no dealers near me which sucks... I need a dealer around for service and parts...

Suzukis are 4 strokes.

Why not 250 or 300 optis if you're already rigged for mercs? I had a pair of 225 optis that I put 800 hours on without the first problem. They were fast as hell and very efficient too
