I didn't see him say this. he said the 07 team could have lost two more games. And whether YOU want to believe it or not LSU was VERY lucky to get into the NC game.

I know he won a national championship, but LSU didn't win due to his amazing coaching. LSU got lucky as hell and that team should have gone 9-3 or 8-4. Again, top-tier talent and good luck will get you far in a program like LSU.
should have gone 8-4? really. we could have EASILY gone undefeated as well. every NC team has luck along the way. Bama barely skirted past UT last year. Sp they should have gone 11-1 right?

Sorry...but his opinion of Mullen being the 3rd best coach in the SEC is the definition of ridiculous.
MSU outplayed/outcoached LSU. They shouldn't have been on the same field with the talent difference.
Or are you saying Mullens should be rated 4,5 or 6?
Either way, it's not ridiculous to say he is 3, given who he's learned under and the results he's helped create.

I'm not calling the team mediocre...I'm focusing on Miles's ability to coach in the SEC.
That team had great talent, a solid coaching staff (Bo Pelini is legit), and excellent leadership from the senior players.
It lacked the leadership and organization from the man at the top. That team could have easily gone undefeated, but bad coaching from the head guy cost LSU two game and nearly cost one or two more.
I wasn't a negatiger from the start like some others, I gave him a chance. He's just failed to do his job in an effective and efficient manner.

Most coaches would have gone 2-11 or 1-12 with that type of talent. Mullen went 5-7 and should have beaten LSU. :praisesChadJones:
Not to mention, Miss. State was competitive in almost every game last year.
Unless last year was just an accident, he proved he can coach in the SEC.
Yes he did. Did he prove he's the 3rd best HC? No he did not.

Dan Mullen is a really good coach

I know....he's accomplished so much.
quote:The problem with your evaluation of coaching is that you base it solely on what someone "has done", not considering what they had to work with. Granted, Miles won a bunch of games and a NC, but he was loaded to the gills with talent.
Choctaw
Mullen, Petrino, Nutt all have lesser teams than Miles but get them to play to the level (or higher) of LSU and beat LSU. This is what makes great coaches, not so much the ability to win when you are loaded, but to win and be competitive with the elite when you are NOT loaded.
Les Miles has shown so far that unless he is LOADED he cannot get the team to play at a high level. This year will tell the tale for Les. If he fails again with another substandard, unremarkable year with what some would consider still superior talent to Nutt and Petrino, he is done.

One game doesn't mean shite. You're basically saying the head coaches of UAB and ULM are better than Saban.

This is what pisses me off....you give all the credit to others and all the blame to Miles. So it was Miles' fault we lost to UK and Arky but everyone else was the reason we won the others. Disregard winning the SEC championship with a backup QB or crushing the #1 team in the country in the NCG...none of that had anything to do with Miles. idiots.
The 51 wins? players and assistants. the 15 losses? Les Miles. Get the frick out of here.

Choctaw, you really are stupid!
The SEC Championship game was sealed off the Jonathan Zenon interception for a TD. I'd say the defense (Bo Pelini) won the game for LSU, because the offesne (Les Miles) didn't so shite.
Also, the defense (Bo Pelini) took it to Ohio State. Guess you forgot about those two factors.

first of all, Miles doesnt call the offense. Secondly...what about the defense during the Arky and UK games? Oh nevermind...i forgot...every loss is Miles' fault.
and if im not mistaken (and im not), RP (the QB) got MVP of the SECCG and the offense put 38 points on OSU after being down 10-0. Guess you forgot about those two factors.

15 losses?
Just named you 6 loses where it was entriely Miles fault. Some of the other loses are questionable too.
2005
L Tennessee
2006
L Auburn
2007
L Kentucky
L Arkansas
2008
L Alabama...some of the others questionable.
2009
L Ole Miss for sure, others are questionbable.

Please. Bloody hand, threw a TD, coming off the bench, of course he is going to win the MVP.

Team just finally ran out of gas after what they had been through. Although i think Miles did try to sit on the lead. Forgiveable

Refgate...refs took away atleast 2 scores. Not sure how this was Miles' fault either way.

Not really sure how these are Miles' fault either. Do you remember the 4th down play against Arky?

Possibly...maybe a couple of others. But their hands were tied at the QB position

L Ole Miss for sure.
Yes.

quote:Agreed. My point was actually that just b/c the MSU QB effed up shouldn't reflect poorly on Mullens.
One game doesn't mean shite.
This is the more pressing of my opinions.
quote:Very common theme.
MSU outplayed/outcoached LSU. They shouldn't have been on the same field with the talent difference.
And the fact that MSU & the majority of other SEC programs would certainly not trade HCs straight up.
Who below Mullens is hands down a better coach than him? Again this is an opinion piece, but to say these ranking are ridiculous is simply not true. It's not like someone has CLM ranked up with Saban or Meyer.

No...but the last 3 offensive plays for MSU should. If Miles had called that last offensive series ya'll would be burning shite in his front yard.

Excuse!

Excuse! Even though the refs took away a score, LSU still had multiple opportunties to win.

Play calling!

Excuse, go back and watch the 4th quarter, LSU had them.

Yes.
No kidding!
You, just like every other koolaid drinker gave me a bunch of excuses. Just because Miles won the crystal ball doesn't make him a good coach. He is no better than Larry Coker and Jim Tressel.
