Career 237-136, 3.8 ERA, 2200 K, 5 WS Titles

I think the key stat for Pettitte and the one that gets him in is that he has the most postseason wins of all time.

no. We have to draw the line between above average and elite. 3.8 ERA isn't elite.

He's been good, but he's definitely not HOF-worthy. He only had one or two seasons when he was among the best pitchers in baseball. His career WHIP is mediocre - 1.354. Just not really great except for a few of his postseason performances (his career playoffs ERA is 3.90).

People always say how many rings you have shouldn't matter. Not saying Andy Pettite is a HOF because of it, but they absolutely should when a player plays a big role in earning those championships.

No, Adam Morrison having two rings isn't relevant, but Kobe having 5 absolutely is.

Yeah he had a role in those championships, along with about 10 other very quality players on each of those teams. This isn't basketball, where it actually matters.

I say no, but 100 games over .500 plus all the postseason victories could get him in.

If he gets in then Big Mac and Bonds need to go in with him

I don't think he's a HOFer, but this is absurd.

If I voted they would both be first ballot.

I think the 5 WS rings should have something to do with it. With that being said, he is not HOF worthy. He has an above average ERA (not great, not even good). He is only 100 games over .500 because he has spent his career playing for dominant teams. I think Mike Mussina was easily a better pitcher than Pettite and I don't think he will get in either.

Speaking of Mussina, how the frick did he manage to come to the Yankees the year after they went on the WS run and retire the year before they won their next one? I'd be pretty bitter.

He has been so clutch in the postseason, I think that has to be taken into affect but yes his era is high.
