he talks about their decision in depth...
LINK
eta: he has very, very kind words for Mike Slive in Part3. It appears they became "friends" throughout this process and he talks about how "gentlemanly" Slive was throughout it all. Says there definitely was an offer for them to join the SEC.

After listening to this entire interview it is apparent A&M's President was overwhelmed with the fast pace of the events and not having time to talk with key people and organizations throughout Texas A&M. Texas being in the drivers seat obviously did not have a problem with how fast the events were progressing until they lost control. Both sides then agreed to do nothing because of the risks involved for both universities. So doing nothing was a welcomed relief for all involved. It further proves this is not over since there are so many details to work out and very little trust throughout the Big 12-2 because of how poorly Texas handled the destruction of the Big 12 by taking who they wanted to the PAC 10. I have yet to hear of one Longhorn who has credited A&M with saving the Big 12. And we won't because of UT's greed so focused on the PAC 10 and now paving an easier path to the BCS Championship games.
The Big Win for the SEC and Texas A&M was how well Mike Slive handled the situation. He never pressured A&M but did assure them the SEC would welcome them if they wanted to move in that direction. A&M's President was greatly appreciative of how well Mike Slive handled the situation and acknowledged a new relationship exists between A&M and the SEC Commissioner.
So bottom line is this. Texas now knows A&M will jump to the SEC if they try to screw A&M, hence they received same money as Oklahoma. Aggies now know they have an open invitation to join the SEC right now. How long that invitation remains extended to A&M remains to be seen. I'm guessing until the SEC fills it with some other schools. So the pressure will build from A&M students and boosters and A&M's President gets his wish that this process move slower so he has time to talk with all parties involved. This is not over. Texas will continue to scheme and I think it's only a matter of time that the Ags join the SEC if they don't wait too long.

I just don't understand many of his arguments:
He says they wanted to be deliberate and take their time with a decision, yet they rushed to a "no decision" on Monday.
He says this was not a financial decision, yet he promotes the fact that this is the first time in history that A&M has been put on the same financial level as Texas and OU.
He says multiple times that they made the decision that was in the best interests of TexasA&M, and TexasA&M alone, yet he also states multiple times that it was the best decision for the state of Texas.
He says he is "convinced" that they made the right decision, but ironically enough his arguments point toward them having made the wrong decision.
The whole thing is very confusing to me. I have no idea why Texas A&M did not accept the SEC's offer. Either A) they screwed up and simply made a wrong decision or B)they got strongarmed by Texas/ESPN/political pressure and simply don't want to admit it.
He does put one question to rest: He quite clearly states that A&M did in fact have an offer from SEC, and all they had to do was call and they were in.
