I did a little research, and I broke down the last 3 recruiting classes for everyone in the SEC and A&M.

The Numbers by the names are, in order, the 2010, 2009, 2008 recruiting classes, and then the average.

Alabama 5 1 1 2.33
Florida 2 11 3 5.33
LSU 6 2 11 6.33
Georgia 15 6 7 9.33
Auburn 5 19 20 14.333
Tennessee 9 10 35 18
Texas A&M 17 22 16 18.333
South Carolina 24 12 22 19.333
Ole Miss 18 18 29 22
Arkansas 49 16 36 33.66
Miss. State 38 25 44 35.66
Kentucky 50 41 57 49.33
Vanderbilt 61 71 90 74

I think what this shows is, that A&M, while its not close to recruiting with the top 4 in the league right now, is already on the same playing field in terms of talent with everyone else in the SEC. all while having 4 losing seasons in the past 7 years!

Once we get used to playing SEC style football, and we start to reap the benefits of the added recuiting advantage, there should be no excuse for us not to have a top 10 recruiting class year in year out.

Being the only Texas school in the SEC will become a good recruiting advantage for aTm as long as they have the right coach in place. I bet there are a lot of kids in Texas that would like to play in the SEC but would like to stay closer to home.

people say this will hurt our recruiting of texas but once our new coach is in place things will run just as smooth as before

Playing in Texas will help other SEC schools recruit in Texas. I don't buy it either.

thats the part that could hurt is more exposure for other teams but LSU still has the edge on location and we already have the connections.

i trust that davis or mangini will be just fine in holding up recruiting or even make it better.

If UT goes pac 10 I thought this would helpATM out because some of the guys that would normally go to UT may go to ATM since they will be in the sec

i really dont think it will be that much of a impact. players go to play for schools not conf. texas is going to be in a major conf so they will still scoop up their guys.

also texas recruiting doesn't really get into battles anyways they just get 100 percent guys that want to play for texas

Nice summary. Thanks for taking the time to compile the data. I agree that A&M will likely be as competitive as roughly half of the current SEC teams with an occasional upset of more talented teams. Hope it works out for you guys regardless.

TAMU should be able to recruit better in the SEC. It will be interesting to see if TAMU in the SEC will hurt UT recruiting more, or LSU's. Hopefully, more TX players will want to play in the SEC and both TAMU and LSU will benefit by UT being in the Pac-16.

Why do people think A&M recruiting will get better just by moving into the SEC? If they suck in the SEC they will get passed over as usual.

the point is that we have sucked for a while now, and still recruit talent on par with the majority of the SEC.

If we can recruit like that while sucking, and while being in the shadow of tu and ou in our conference, what will happen when maybe we still suck for a while, but he have this great recruiting tool called the SEC. its not just the conferences prestige, its the TV Deal too.

"yes mam, every single game we play will be on ESPN or one of its affiliates. You wont ever have to miss a game. the other sbig school in texas cant offer that."

that will be a pretty convincing pitch for many parents. Also, we dont have to start pulling in 5-10 guys we wouldnt have had otherwise, but the 2-3 difference makers we might have a shot at will make a difference
