The Pac-10 and ACC dont have a 24/7/365 network to advertise their schools. The Big Ten Network has academic programming throughout the year, interviews with professors, campus tours, research profiles, etc. I would think most schools would like to get paid millions of dollars to advertise.
By any measure, attempting to place the Big 10 on an academic scale equivalent to Duke, UVA, UNC, Georgia Tech, etc or Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA, etc is simply witless.

The Big 10 is deeper academically than the ACC but the ACC clearly has more schools in the top 50. BTW, you missed Wake Forest, BC and Miami all of whch are top 50 universities. Still, the ACC is easily the premier academic BCS conference in the nation IMO.

After Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA and Washington the PAC 10 becomes pathetic academically. After Washington at number 42 you have to go all the way down to #102 to find Arizona. The Big Ten overall is a much better conference academically than the PAC 10. However, I'd be proud for either of my kids to sport a degree from one of their top 5 universities.
