Who else finds all of this nuts? I know these conference changes have occurred, but this is ridiculous. How is it possible that 1 or 2 schools can effect the entire NCAA landscape? Don't they have some kind of contract in place when these conferences are formed? Shouldn't something like this require a vote of all conference members at the least and maybe all NCAA members like the playoffs change requires? I don't know why but I don't like this, I like the SEC the way it is. Sure it could be nice to play aTm again, but I'm not dying to see that happen. I hope these moves are all that occurs and the Big XII stays in tact. Does everyone else actually like what is about to happen???

One word: Perception. People think becuase there's alot of people out west, there' alot of people that will tune into college footll. Those west coast fans are bandwagon/casual fans. With USC going to th shitter, it'll be ten years till most of them care about ollege football again.

The big 12 can only blame itself in this. When the Sec and Big 10 were making big bucks on tv deals the Big 12 did nothing. Also they let the big boys in the conference run the conference instead of making it even for everyone.

A lot of people hated what the SEC was doing when it expanded to have a conference championship. Look at how much of a success it is now. It's plain and simple, other conferences want to be the next SEC. No one knows for sure what kind of impact this really has until years down the road. SEC either has to keep up with what's going on or get left in the dust.

Not necessarily. It's better to stand pat than to make a move solely for the sake of making a move.

Offering A&M works because they have historical ties to LSU and Arkansas, they're a cultural fit with the rest of the league, and they bring a market the league would like.

Bringing in a Memphis or Louisville, as suggested in another thread as the possible "booby prizes" if Slive doesn't act fast, would be a mistake because neither would bring enough to the table to offset the smaller cut in profits by taking out an additional two slices of the pie.

If we don't get A&M or some other top-flight school that is either a football power or expands our markets, such as a Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, etc., I don't see a problem with standing pat over raiding the Big East or C-USA.

ANY conference has a lot to catch up to the SEC's 100% 6-0 record in the MNC game until they do who cares?

I was also getting at how is it this easy to just change a conference? Is it really just something you as a school can just decide? I am ignorant on this process. If so, shouldn't the NCAA have better oversight on this?

It isn't easy. If the Big 12 decides to continue and just add 2 teams then CU owes the big 12 $9,000,000.

I am not sure if Nebraska owes the same amount or if they have a different contract.

CU is banking on the Big 12 to crumble and dissolve. If it doesn't they get hammered with the big penalty for leaving.

it does. For the conference they are joining.
