Do they bring a new market?

Sort of, but not really. Having UF and FSU with their huge alumni bases (and growing with both having 40k+ undergrads) gets the entire Florida market and weakens private school Miami, who loses their main rival in state and conference. Hence we don't need Miami, and they dont fit culturally anyway, to own the state.

Simply, taking FSU solidifies the SEC as the premier power. They are the only school noteworthy within the SEC tv range that can draw any presence. Good luck to the ACC/Big East merger, if they dont have FSU, they get a little presence in Miami and thats it.

That is why taking FSU makes sense. The conference will OWN outright, the entire Southeast.

FSU is not important, they can't even give their tickets away anymore and haven't been relevant since 2000.

that changes when home games are against LSU, Auburn, Bama, and UGA as opposed to Wake Forest, NC State, Clemson, Virginia.

i understand why gators wouldnt want it, but it wont kill your program. they will gain ground on you, but the landscape is changing, accept that.

The last 3 trips UF had more fans in Joke Shambles than FSU did and even USF had more fans this past year.

that program has been sliding into the ditch with bowden for awhile. new energy and large visiting fanbases will change that.

you think ole miss or miss state ever fill up without Bama, UF, LSU coming to town? not a chance and their stadium is 30k less than DC.

fsu fans will care more when their natural rivals become their common opponents.

princess. ive heard that and i think thats terribly weak.

i know a lot of their alumni up here on the panhandle want to go and apparently so does their AD. jimbo hasnt got the power ole BB had. regardless, he basically admitted he wants the all cupcake conference over real opponents. job security stuff i guess.

The one and only reason FSU is important to the SEC is that it will water down Florida recruiting. Kids want to play in the SEC.

agreed.

and this isolates Miami. it will be them playing the wake forests and nc states of the football world, while UF and FSU are playing Bama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, etc.

they will continue to have half empty home games while FSU no longer has that problem. they can still win and get talent, but they wont be the player they once were if they get left out of the SEC.

Don't forget, the payout from TV money is way bigger in the SEC. ACC tv money sucks arse. Plus Fla St can stop playing on Thursday nights... Who the crap wants to play on Thursday nights except Va Tech?

Like I said before move FSU to the SEC and FSU will no longer be hurting from a fan standpoint. Match ups sell tickets period. Hell even LSU has trouble filling the stands for games against the cupcake teams.

I don't care if they do or not, but the SEC gets no benefit from them, Miami, GT, or Clemson.

FSU brings a lot to the table for the SEC if only for money, to think that they don't contribute anything is just foolish....

You guys only want FSU because you think it will hurt Florida. Does Auburn hurt Alabama? I think not.

And you guys don't want them for that same reason. If there were two Florida SEC teams UF would no longer get all of the recruits in Florida that they choose. Kids know who the best conference is and where they want to play if they want a sure shot at the chance to play for a NC.

You say FSU would not hurt UF but we all know that's a lie including you. Would it kill UF no but it would hurt none the less. And FSU would contribute to the SEC even if the TV market did not change much. The money would still help and it's not like they have no tradition. Plus they would fit in with a expansion when the SEC does one. Now if they get invited who knows at this point but to claim they wouldn't fit in dumb.

UF has been the team in Florida the past few years and rightfully so. They play in the SEC and the fans like seeing match ups with the likes of UT, UGA,Bama, LSU etc etc way more than getting up for one game a year which is against Miami. As far as the fans not filling the stands it does not seem to be that way when those two teams play each other and I doubt it would be that way if they were in the SEC.
