Timeframe for Expansion

Sorry if this is a really stupid question but I've been wondering this and none of the articles I've read seem to address this question. When do these teams actually switch conferences? Will Nebraska and Colorado be playing in the Big Ten and Pac-16, respectively, next year? If not then when does this switch actually occur..

I heard that Colorado would play in pac10 in 2012.

It's usually 2 seasons between the announcement and actual change. Probably has something to do with scheduling.

It is driven more by the TV contracts.....or so I was told.

2012...the way these conferences memberships are built, there is a lag period to allow for other arrangements to be made by other member institutions.
