That's not 100% the reason. Inexperience at certain positions and inconsistent pitching were to blame too.
But yes the lack of strong leadership did hurt. How many times over that bad stretch did we see the team look flat? How many times did they repeatedly make costly mental mistakes?
Repeated mental errors, guys failing to consistently do their jobs, and guys not showing up mentally ready to play are indicative of not having the right kind of leaders...the kind of leaders who jump somebody's butt for not doing what he's supposed to do.
