This is absurd. Obama asked last Friday for Allen to make a recommendation to him on what to do about the barrier island proposal.
Well it is Wednesday and Allen wants to know what the public thinks. So go let him know. Our Government in action. Don't worry they will make BP pay for this
frick clean it up and get them to pay later.

If you make a comment it gives you the ability to see what other people have said.

I'm at a loss for words with your idiocy. I can't believe how long this has gone on and what you're allowing to happen to our beautiful country. We don't need terrorists attacking our country,..bp has already done the job...We need people in there to do the job and stop sitting with their fingers up their a**.

Absolutely ridiculous. Left a comment anyway, for all the good it does. It will probably take them another five days just to read the comments.

How feasible is the whole sand berm idea anyway?
What are your thoughts?
What are your thoughts?

I can't see where it would hurt. Maybe it won't help but the only thing to lose is money and the cost of saving any of the marsh land is worth every penny.

Aren't they already trying an experimental berm segment to see if the idea is going to work? Do you know the status of that?

Here are some general thoughts from reading things here and there, sorted into negatives and positives.
Negatives:
There is some thought that building a solid sand berm could cause damage to the marsh by cutting off water flow.
It costs money.
Water action could erode it quickly.
The source of sand is from the nearby ocean floor, so the hydrology of the area would still be affected.
Positives:
Oil is orders of magnitude easier to clean off of a sand beach than from wetlands.
Building some areas of berm allow for surface-fighting resources to be concentrated into less area of open water.
Sub-surface oil can not float underneath a berm as it can with boom.
If done in such a way that the tides and waterflow are not cut off to the marsh, it could be used as one step in helping to rebuild marsh.

Good points. There will definitely be a give and take. I do think that we need to have a good idea of the berm's feasibility before going into a full scale operation.
