If this top kill does not work and I have my doubts then the leaking oil will go on for another 5 or 6 months at a minimum which will completely coat the Louisiana, AL, Miss, and Florida coasts and bring oil up the east coast. BP then will have huge lawsuits filed against it. From a legal stand point I would assume BP execs would file bankruptcy on purpose to get out of all the legal responsibility and then have another Oil Company buying up what is left of the company. The financial hit on the Gulf coast states would be so severe that it would put the U.S. into another severe Recession. This might end up being the worst man made disaster our country has faced in a very long time.

well, the original well was drilled in ~90 days, so you can use that as a bit of a guide when considering how long the relief well will take.

I predict this worst case scenario will be reached this September.
