i have about 10000 baseball cards in the basement. was offered 2000$ for a jose cruz jr/nomar garciaparra signed rookie card back in 97, went back in 02 and they told me it was 5$. what a worthless investment those were

also have a chipper, griffey jr, man-ram, furcal, maddux, canseco, sosa, and caminiti rookie cards that i was offered 4000$ for all of them in 2000 and turned it down. the fricker at the card store told me to hold onto them that they would only get more valuable. what a dumbass i was

The baseball card industry sort of fixed the problem by offering "hobby packs" at increased prices and only at certain retailers and in limited quantities. But most cards from early 80's to 2000's are worthless.

I would think that most cards through the mid-80's (Fleer, Topps, Donruss) would hold most of their value, unless the steroids issue has affected some of the later cards. It was around 1988 and on when there became a glut of card companies and production went overboard.

Its a fringe zone, 90's is garbage, 70's is valuable, 80's are a nice mix of both.

I didn't think baseball card trading was still that popular.

I spent some serious money on cards when I was a kid.

I agree. I quit collecting baseball cards in 1992. By that time there were so many other companies involved, Upper Deck, Bowman, Score that it seemed to cheapen collecting. Although, Upper Deck had nice looking cards. I'll give them that. Topps started going downhill around 1987-1988. Their 1989 cards were horrible quality.

Upper deck fixed all that. Their rpoduct was so much better than anyone else back then that the others had to increase their effort to compete. Now, Upper Deck is all but shut out of the official card business. I think the only license they still have is for NHL.

The only meaningful Upper Deck cards I own is the first year NFL cards from 1991. I've held on to it because Favre's rookie card is in there.
