It's a prediction, trying to make the pieces fit. Torres has played wide for the US.
You watched the USA - Cuba WCQ yesterday?
The only way Torres makes this roster is as a left mid. Simple as that. He's not going to see the the CM position over Feilhaber, Bradley, Edu, or Clark.

So he would have to beat out three guys (Rogers, Beasley, and Bedoya) who play that position year round? Hell, Pearce has played that position all season for FC Dallas. He's probably got a better shot than Torres, if that's our measuring stick.
