The killing of a heritage

Everything I remember growing up stands to be ruined. The rush of the clean fresh air out to the honey holes. Bumpy enjoyment of Beany Weenies and Little Debbie oatmeal pies. Sun burnt afternoons over fresh salty fried fish and cold beer. Waking up full of anticipation defined by the low humming of supply boat diesels and bags of ice slamming into the ice chests. The rancid smell of Dulac on the way to pick up crabs.
I will even miss the fricking turd huslters.
We are slowly watching/feeling south Lousiana's heart break.

I am together and I know what stands to be destroyed.
Besides, Schwartz's video got to me.

[link=([B])]Louisiana coast's battle against drifting oil expected to last months, if not years[/link]
quote:
"I'm afraid we're just seeing the beginning of what is going to be a long, ugly summer," said Ed Overton, an LSU professor who has consulted on oil spills for three decades.
"I hope and pray I'm wrong, but I think what we're in for is seeing a little bit come in each day at different places for a long, long time -- months and months.
"That's not what I said in the beginning of this. But events have made me amend my thoughts."
.....
In fact, the consensus building among scientists and oil spill experts this week was that BP's mistake likely will never result in a black wave soaking miles of coast in thick layers of black oil. Instead, Louisiana is probably in for a years-long war of mostly small skirmishes against random, low-volume oilings of coastal marshes and beaches.
"I think we're looking at many months of intense activity, but then years of follow-up work," said Robert Barham, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
"I've been told by the ocean experts this stuff could hang out there on the bottom of the Gulf for more than 100 years. And as long as it's out there, it can come ashore.
"We might not see big black waves, but we may be seeing a smaller, but serious problem, for years and years to come."

Ending up going redfishing on Point au Fer instead. Dint make it out Sat night like we planned to, good thinf=g cause the wind starting picking up a little later.
We limited out in 2 hours.
Had a buddy left out of Morgan City headed to VR 314 and said they caught some Tuna, AJ's and Lemons. They were also bringing in some huge Sanpper but of course they had to throw those back.

Ixtoc I
How many dead redfish/trout/mahi/marlin /cobia/snapper, blah, blah have been reported so far?
It's been leaking for a month, fish will move to get away from the areas being affected. Sure, some "nursery" areas will hurt for a while, but they'll just spawn somewhere else. For specific areas(see Plaquemines Parish) it may be terrible, but not the whole coastline.
Just my opinion, time will tell.
ETA: Nice, i'm thinking about heading out towards the Auger during the week, but may head to the Mardi Gras Sat.

State waters are 12 miles out right? So SS28 and the MG rigs are off limits, right?

Then move over to Florida and enjoy white beaches, hot chicks in bikinis and the sound of beer hitting the ice chest. Come back to LA in 5-6 yrs and it will probably better than it was before.

It's going to take more than money to bring that area back. Money is a start, but it is going to take a lot of time.
