I don't have any confidence that the bureaucracy can fix this.

Absolute failure is not hard to top. Why not try something new?

I guess they have determined that they have waited long enough so that if they can't fix it, they can just blame BP, aka, "the previous administration".

Trade one bureaucracy for another.

I think it's a bad idea. Why don't the other big oil companies come together to figure something out. You have to think this will affect them, too, right? Wouldn't it be a good investment for them?

Not a good investment for the oil companies to help because they are screwed already in the public eye. Government has been slow to do anything because this administration doesn't want to be viewed as incompetent.

I just want the leak stopped so it doesn't frick up my vacation to the beach in a few weeks.

Sounds like a great idea. While we're at it, let's have the Corps of Engineers build some levees and have FEMA stand by in case they fail.

Good.
After a while, govt. will realize it's function is to defend the waters of the United States. What is BP's function?

There you go.

And BP footing the bill will just bring oil prices up for the next 5 years, and no one will be accountable until a 'later administration' addresses the fallout.
