They did but they didn't. This episode is clearly building towards some acceptance of personal fates.

End of the finale is all the island and people being figments of Walts imagination.

they have gotten to hooked on the jacob-MIB bullshite and the alternative emo-verse that they've completely failed to answer any overriding questions

so basically they completely change the show in its last 1/3, and then just build toward the climax of that storyline

THEY ARE IGNORING THE PAST AND THEN USING IT OVER AGAIN FOR EMOTIONAL EFFECT. frick. GODDAMN WHY CAN'T PEOPLE SEE THIS?
