so every year every player on every team that that replaces a player that is no longer with the program is automatically worse than the player that left because he couldn't beat them out the prior year?

Not every player on every team every year, but in general, yes. A new starter replacing a departed one is usually not as good in that first year as a new starter as the departed one was the year before.

I agree. In addition, Miles said last year, that was the best OL that he had seen. Why should young players be expected to play when the cohesion of the unit could be jeopardized?
