In 08 it was a very bad aggressive defense. Chavis was a little to tenative for my liking but hey it's a hell of a lot better then what we had before. My thing is if you have the talent and scheme to pull off an aggressive defense you should do it.

They were alot more aggressive last year than in '08....but it takes longer than one season to get away from the Malleveto defense. Plus, Alem (who i thought would have a breakout year) seemed to overrun alot of plays which kinda screwed the secondary at times. With that said...they were still 11th in defense and i think they'll be better this year. just my opinion.

Defense in 09 was decent if not great. The part that needs improvement, more than d line pressure on QB, is plugging the running lanes. I can't believe how even bad teams could run on us last year. The difference between 2 and 5 losses will be the d line and not necessarily the QBs imo.

in terms of aggressiveness I was referring to the secondary. He would try to blitz but really no one on the d line forced a double team which made it easy to pick up the blitz plus the qb could keep hitting comeback routes

As is evident from my posts I'm not a fan of Chavis's approach this far. But in his defense he worked wonders with our LB's, gave us some great performances (UGA, UF, AU, 1st half Arky), and gave us a chance to win every game.

I think we'll be improved some on D but I don't think there's going to be this great upshot in talent on DL.

And I hope I'm right in this since it sounds like Chavis really wants to put a lot of speed on D and take a more aggressive tack.
